Fedor Emelianenko, M-1 welcome

mma-sa.com

In the wake up former UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture's recent loss to Brock Lesnar, M-1 Global and WAMMA heavyweight title-holder Fedor Emelianenko have publicly stated their desire for a "superfight" between the famed Russian fighter and the UFC's new heavyweight champion.

M-1 today released the official statement of the proposed bout with Lesnar while Emelianenko granted interviews with select media members.

M-1 executive Jerry Millen and Emelianenko clarify that the fight would need to be a "co-promoted event between the UFC, M-1, and Affliction Entertainment" -- something that could be difficult given, what they argue, has been the UFC's "anti-Fedor policy."

mma-sa.com

LAS VEGAS, November 15 – The first man in UFC history to win the heavyweight championship in his fourth fight was Randy Couture. “I can’t believe it,” said Lesnar I want to thank (UFC President) Dana (White), the UFC, and especially Randy Couture. It takes a lot of balls to come back after a year off and fight a young buck like me.”

Aaron Riley – One of MMA’s Original Action Heroes Returns

mma-sa.com

Before there was The Ultimate Fighter, there was Aaron Riley. Before Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar put on a

fight for the ages in 2005 that opened mixed martial arts up to a whole new fanbase, Riley was having fights like that with guys like Yves Edwards, Steve Berger, and Robbie Lawler.

But when the native of Tell City, Indiana steps into the Octagon this Saturday night against Jorge Gurgel, to many he’ll be the ‘new’ guy, or the guy who lost to Spencer Fisher in his last UFC appearance in January of 2006. It’s an odd place him to be in, especially since a big win could stamp him with the tag of ‘overnight success.’

Jorge Gurgel – Born to Fight

mma-sa.com

For the last month, Jorge Gurgel has made his home In a small room in the Sityodtong gym in Somerville, Massachusetts. When he has to visit the bathroom in the middle of the night, he has to dodge heavy bags on the way. His wake-up call doesn’t come from the front desk of a posh hotel or an alarm clock, but from the buzzer ringing off rounds as his gym mates hit the heavy bags.

Gurgel calls it “that Rocky Balboa feeling,” and living two feet away from the mat at the gym has been a Godsend for the budding lightweight contender, who has finally realized that to achieve his dreams as a fighter, he had to get away from his own gym back in Cincinnati.

“I always knew that I needed to improve,” said Gurgel, a native of Fortaleza, Brazil. “The problem is that I always put everybody else in front of me. At one point in time, something got published saying that I had more UFC fighters than the current popular coaches. I had eight UFC fighters at one point. But I had to finally draw the line and say ‘listen guys, I dedicated the last eight years to build a core of great fighters, so you can roll the ball by yourselves while I’m gone. I need to do this while I can because I don’t want to be the guy who’s 40-something years old who says ‘man, if I had focused on myself, I shoulda, coulda, woulda done this and that.’ So I need to leave now, eight weeks before a fight.’ They all understand and support me, and I understand how important it is, especially for my head, to be free. Here, I’m just a student.”

The Blueprint: Randy Couture

Brock Lesnar, however, is no ordinary “novice” fighter. His deep wrestling roots and freakish combination of size, strength and speed make him more akin to a comic book superhero than a novice fighter.

Couture is nobody’s fool. He is well aware of Brock’s physical and athletic advantages. He knows that as a 45-year-old champion, he cannot match Lesnar on any physical level. He won’t even attempt to.

LONDON, July 14 -- Returning to Wembley Arena for another night of action, Cage Rage 22 "Hard as Hell" delivered some spectacular finishes, including the shocking knock out of James Thompson on a card headlined by Eric Esch taking on Tengiz Tedoradze.

At the start of the main event, Tedoradze hammered "Butterbean" in the clinch with short punches, but quite understandably looked out of ideas when it came to taking down the gargantuan restaurant-owner.

Employing his solid but imperfect boxing to good affect, Tedoradze looked comfortable on the feet until a huge left hook from Esch dropped him to the floor, setting the alarm bells ringing in the Georgian's corner.

FRANK SHAMROCK Defeats PHIL BARONI

FRANK RESPECTS BARONI, WANTS TO FIGHT RENZO

Frank Shamrock answered a lot of questions long-time mixed martial arts enthusiasts had concerning his fighting ability against today's fighters, and gave newer fans to the sport a glimpse into the mystic that is Frank Shamrock, when he dispatched of hard hitting Phil Baroni at the co-promoted Strikeforce and EliteXC event Friday night in San Jose, Calif.
Shamrock, now sporting the moniker 'The Legend,' nearly finished Baroni with strikes in the first round before choking 'The New York Bad Ass' out with a Rear Naked Choke in round two.
Despite the online hype and pre-fight smack talk, Baroni gained the respect of Shamrock in the cage. "I knew he'd fight until the end. Phil's a warrior man. I mean Phil proved to me, I thought I would destroy Phil, and he proved to me that he's one of the toughest guys in MMA. He's got the toughest jaw I've ever seen, and he's got meat hooks on his hands. I think he came out huge on this, and my head is misshapened and swollen from getting punched."
Frank went on to say, "He's a brawler. He's a power puncher. He's got incredibly heavy hands. I think he's got the heaviest hands in MMA. His strength is that he'll do it. He's not good at it, but he'll do it, and that's dangerous. He smacked me a bunch of good times. I've never hit anybody in MMA that hard on the chin that many times and they not go down."

New Fighter Profile

Jerome Le Banner

Jerome Le BannerJérôme Le Banner was born December 24th 1972 into a modest family in Le Havre, France. His father was a truck driver and incidentally a semi professional boxer, his mother a warehousewoman. Young Jérôme started practicing martial arts with Judo at age 6. He showed great potential but a disagreement between his father and some judges during a competition put an early end to Jérôme's career in this sport.

Jérôme was 14 when he discovered a movie and an actor that would have a considerable influence on his life; it was indeed after watching Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury that LeBanner enrolled in karate classes, as he wanted to follow the footsteps of the man who became his role model. Young LeBanner devoured books and magazines dedicated to the Little Dragon, even putting his power hand in the lead as teached in Jet Kun Do, Bruce Lee's own fighting style. Even today Jérôme has kept his characteristic southpaw stance while he's naturally right handed.
